New grass and garden beds for the 2025 season

Last year, I nearly lost the garden to invasive weeds. This year, we're fortifying the garden! I dug a barrier along the fence line, installed a small stone strip, and planted grass seed in an effort to hold off the the weeds over my fence. Nature sure puts up a fight!

A look back to the old days at Garden Pat 1.0

The key to any successful garden: compost! While this photo is a look back at the composting golden age of Garden Pat, the effort does not end with the move! Not many updates to give at this point, but I'm working on a solution to provide Garden Pat 2.0 with some good compost for the spring.

See previous season's efforts from the garden. If nothing else, please learn from the mistakes I highlight in the recaps found here. Have any prior success or failure stories of your own? Feel free to share with us!

Much like these seedlings in the above stock image, this page has some development ahead!

Digging Deeper

A healthy and thoughtful home garden operation provides all sorts of benefits. While this website is intended to be nothing more than a love letter to horticulture, sometimes there are other areas of life in close proximity to apply these positive efforts.

Here, I'll highlight recipes, landscaping, home improvement, and general musings of other projects and tinkering endeavors.

Travel: Paris 2024

Family Vacation of a Lifetime!

One of the major highlights of 2024 for me was my trip to Paris with my parents. I had been to Paris before, but I was 18 year old, and had just come down with mononucleosis. I was nearly bedridden and didn't get to see hardly any of the city during the two days my high school group spent there in the summer of 2009.

But fast forward 2024 and I had the opportunity to play tour guide for my parents, and recreate the trip that I missed out on 15 year prior. Time sure does fly!

Potato and Leek Soup

Disclaimer: I did not grow the potatoes on the left. That would be an impressive haul!

In honor of the true hero of the Lord of the Rings, Samwise Gamgee, the staple crop of 2025 will be (drumroll please...) PO- TA- TOES. We will be boiling them, mashing them, and of course, sticking them in stews. Potatoes truly are a modern marvel of a food staple and I'll make the argument that modern society could not exist today without the potato!
